Il aura servi \u00e0 nous faire comprendre que la Russie est redevenue une tr\u00e8s grande, peut-\u00eatre une super-puissance gr\u00e2ce au gaz naturel,  et, disons, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. (Super-puissance parce que la puissance que lui donnent l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et les manipulations \u00e0 l&rsquo;exportation sont quasiment intouchables, parce que par ailleurs la Russie est une puissance nucl\u00e9aire majeure qu&rsquo;on ne peut menacer comme un vulgaire Irak ou un vulgaire Iran.)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tMais, au moins, nous serons quitte de Poutine, puisqu&rsquo;il nous quitte en 2008 (impossibilit\u00e9 de briguer un deuxi\u00e8me mandat). Poutine pourrait nous revenir par la porte de derri\u00e8re, fa\u00e7on Russie nouvelle formule. Poutine mijoterait un bon coup de sa fa\u00e7on : devenir patron de <em>Gazprom<\/em>, le nouvel instrument manipulateur de la puissance russe. Last year, he ended the popular election of provincial governors. He is also cracking down on the independent media and on human rights and democracy groups, both domestic and foreign.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb <em>The increasingly autocratic President is looking ahead to what happens after the 2008 elections. Under the Russian constitution, he cannot stand for a third consecutive term. Some political analysts say that when he steps down, he will take the helm of Gazprom.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb <em>If Europe&rsquo;s dependence on Russian gas continues  and there is no real alternative in the short term  Mr Putin may, as Gazprom&rsquo;s chief, wield more political clout with the West than he does now. One Russian PR man based in London was asked if he was still looking after Gazprom as a client. He replied dryly: No, Mr Putin is looking after Gazprom.
