Il commente les \u00e9v\u00e9nements de la Grande R\u00e9publique mise sens dessus dessous par l&rsquo;attaque 9\/11. Schell a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d&rsquo;interrompre cette chronique et il publie un texte,  <em>Farewell from Ground Zero<\/em>  o\u00f9 il s&rsquo;en explique. (Le texte para\u00eetra dans <em>The Nation<\/em> le 6 mars et il est d&rsquo;ores et d\u00e9j\u00e0 publi\u00e9, avec une introduction de Tom Engelhardt, sur le site de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomdispatch.com\/index.mhtml?pid=60579\" class=\"gen\">Tom Engelhardt<\/a> et sur <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/engelhardt\/?articleid=8561\" class=\"gen\">Antiwar.com<\/a>, entre autres.)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tSchell n&rsquo;abandonne pas. Au contraire, il \u00e9largit son sujet, le rend plus dramatique, pour rendre plus \u00e9vidente l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique d&rsquo;une crise brutale mais ponctuelle \u00e0 une crise g\u00e9n\u00e9rale et fondamentale. Aussi la chronique <em>Letter From Ground Zero<\/em> devient-elle <em>Crisis of the Republic<\/em>. Schell s&rsquo;explique \u00e9galement de ce changement d&rsquo;intitul\u00e9:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab <em>This column will be my last Letter From Ground Zero.&rsquo; The series will be succeeded by another, Crisis of the Republic.&rsquo; Until recently it seemed possible to trace the main developments in the Bush administration&rsquo;s policies back to that horrible, fantastical day in September 2001, as if following an unbroken chain of causes and effects. Now it no longer does. The chain is too entangled with other chains, of newer and older origin.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t&#8230; Changement bienvenu parce que changement symboliquement juste. Il est vrai que nous sommes pass\u00e9s insensiblement de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque post-9\/11 \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque post-post-9\/11, o\u00f9 la crise n&rsquo;est plus limit\u00e9e aux seules cons\u00e9quences directes et indirectes de 9\/11, o\u00f9 la crise a pris une ampleur historique dont les racines vont dans l&rsquo;histoire des trois si\u00e8cles pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents.
