\t\u00ab The European Union and India firmly pointed the finger at the United States for the final breakdown, saying that Washington had been demanding too high a price for cutting into the some $20 billion it spends annually on farm subsidies.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb Accusing the United States of stone-walling, EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said: Surely the richest and strongest nation in the world, with the highest standards of living, can afford to give as well as take.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb But the United States was adamant neither the EU nor India had been prepared to offer the sort of access to their markets that Washington needs to make a deal on subsidies worthwhile.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb It has said all along it preferred no deal to one that brought it no new business.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb Unfortunately as we went through the layers of loopholes … we discovered that a couple of our trading partners were more interested in loopholes than they were in market access, said U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Des sources europ\u00e9ennes ont indiqu\u00e9 qu’il avait \u00e9t\u00e9 impossible d’avoir des contacts s\u00e9rieux avec Washington ces derni\u00e8res semaines (l’intention \u00e9tant de tenter d’obtenir un d\u00e9blocage par une autorit\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 la U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab). \u00ab Le gouvernement US est compl\u00e8tement concentr\u00e9 sur le seul probl\u00e8me des crises au Moyen-Orient et, depuis deux semaines, sur celle du Liban.
