\t\u00ab While much of the world has criticized Israel for carrying out a disproportionate war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, hard-line neoconservatives have attacked the government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for timidity.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb As noted by diplomatic correspondent Ori Nir in this week’s edition of The Forward, the U.S.’ most important Jewish newspaper, the Israeli government and its military’s chief of staff, Gen. Dan Halutz, have been subjected to unusually harsh criticism, including the charge that, by failing to wage a more aggressive war, they were jeopardizing Israel’s long-term strategic alliance with Washington.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb [Hezbollah] is today the leading edge of an aggressive, nuclear-hungry Iran, wrote Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer earlier this week. [Olmert’s] search for victory on the cheap has jeopardized not just the Lebanon operation but America’s confidence in Israel as well. The tremulous Olmert seems not have a clue.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb In particular, Krauthammer and other leading neoconservatives have assailed Olmert for not launching a massive ground invasion from the outset which, in their view, could have effectively crushed Hezbollah’s military capabilities, if not the organization itself.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb Hezbollah can only be destroyed by a ground campaign, wrote National Review columnist Jonah Goldberg early in the campaign. If Israel doesn’t launch one, it will be worse off. Still others attacked him for failing to widen the war beyond Lebanon to Hezbollah supporters, Iran and Syria.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb These public attacks are widely believed to reflect the positions of hard-line neoconservatives within the administration of President George W. Bush, centered, in particular, in Cheney’s office and that of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bb They have largely been confined, however, to the more extreme elements in the neoconservative movement, particularly those most closely associated with the right wing of Israel’s opposition Likud Party.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Les n\u00e9o-conservateurs sont d’abord li\u00e9s \u00e0 leur id\u00e9ologie, laquelle est li\u00e9e \u00e0 la politique bureaucratique et expansionniste du Pentagone et du syst\u00e8me am\u00e9ricaniste (et, dans ce cas, nous jugeons que la pi\u00e8ce centrale est bien s\u00fbr le Pentagone avec sa position dans le syst\u00e8me, qui donne l’impulsion g\u00e9n\u00e9rale r\u00e9percut\u00e9e jusque dans les structures et la politique isra\u00e9liennes, m\u00eame quand cette politique n’est pas assez extr\u00e9miste).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\tCela fait partie du sch\u00e9ma des liens entre Washington (le Pentagone) et Tel Aviv. Certains consid\u00e8rent que Tel Aviv manipule Washington. Nous croyons \u00e0 la situation inverse<\/a>, avec les particularismes qu’on sait (le Pentagone et le syst\u00e8me dans le cas de Washington, le Likoud et l’arm\u00e9e dans le cas isra\u00e9lien). La col\u00e8re des neocons est alors compr\u00e9hensible : Tel Aviv ne va pas assez loin dans son r\u00f4le de proxy<\/em> du syst\u00e8me am\u00e9ricaniste.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\tEn ce sens, nous atteignons une heure de v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Tel Aviv, qui n’a pas le go\u00fbt du suicide, ne tient pas \u00e0 aller trop loin dans la politique aventuriste proclam\u00e9e hyst\u00e9riquement par les neocons au nom du syst\u00e8me. Ce sont les int\u00e9r\u00eats nationaux contre la doctrine hyst\u00e9rique jusqu’au bout. Moment int\u00e9ressant.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
