On connaît les d\u00e9j\u00e0-consid\u00e9rables p\u00e9r\u00e9grinations<\/a> de Divine Strake<\/em>. Elles se poursuivent. Elles nous am\u00e8nent leur lot de surprises. Elles nous en am\u00e8neront d’autres encore.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s le Nevada, apr\u00e8s l’Indiana, il semble que ce soit maintenant le Nouveau Mexique qui soit la cible des exp\u00e9rimentateurs de Divine Strake<\/em>. Mais un retour au Nevada n’est pas non plus exclu.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Le plus remarquable dans cette affaire semble \u00eatre qu’elle provoque une tr\u00e8s forte r\u00e9action d’organisations ou d’individualit\u00e9s contre l’exp\u00e9rimentation. Il se pourrait bien effectivement que l’affaire Divine Strake<\/em> constitue un cas où les prises de position populaires, relay\u00e9es par les \u00e9lus des r\u00e9gions concern\u00e9es, rendent de plus en plus malais\u00e9 le travail du complexe militaro-industriel. Cela est dû essentiellement \u00e0 l’\u00e9normit\u00e9 de cette exp\u00e9rimentation, de ses cons\u00e9quences possibles, de sa signification implicite, etc.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

«A spokesman for Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said recently that the Divine Strake test – an explosion of 700 tons of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil over a series of tunnels to see how deep it will go, how much damage it will create – has not been scrubbed.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

»This test was pushed out of the Nevada Test Site when the Defense Threat Reduction Agency could not guarantee that detonation of this 700 tons of fuel would not stir up old radioactive dust left over from the many nuclear explosions that took place there during the Cold War.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

»The safety of those who live downwind of the test site provoked the grassroots opposition that grew to political opposition to this test.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

»And, although that was a primary concern, it was not the only concern because these \u00a0\u00bbrobust penetrators,\u00a0\u00bb as they are called, are destined to be the next-generation nukes.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

»So whether they test this thing in Nevada, New Mexico or some abandoned rock quarry in Indiana -as has also been discussed, all roads lead back – eventually, to the Nevada Test Site, one of the few places on the continent where nuclear testing can be performed.<\/em>»<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
