(Musharraf \u00e9tait de passage \u00e0 New York pour la session solennelle et annuelle des Nations-Unies.)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tParmi les questions qui lui furent pos\u00e9es, celle de savoir si son pays avait \u00e9t\u00e9 menac\u00e9 par les USA, notamment apr\u00e8s le 11 septembre 2001. <em>The Independent<\/em> nous fait rapport <a href=\"http:\/\/news.independent.co.uk\/world\/asia\/article1696179.ece\" class=\"gen\">aujourd&rsquo;hui<\/a> des circonstances telles que les rapporte le pr\u00e9sident pakistanais.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>The President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, reveals in an interview to be aired at the weekend that, soon after the terror attacks of 11 September 2001, the United States threatened to bomb his country \u00a0\u00bbback into the Stone Age\u00a0\u00bb if he didn&rsquo;t offer its co-operation in fighting terrorism and the Taliban.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The revelation was made by General Musharraf during his visit to New York for the annual General Assembly of the United Nations. It comes after a week in which the US has been criticised by a number of foreign leaders for trying to impose its will on other nations.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Talking to a correspondent of the CBS news magazine 60 Minutes to be shown on Sunday evening, General Musharraf claims that the warning was delivered to his own director of intelligence by the US Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Armitage. \u00a0\u00bbThe intelligence director told me that<\/em> [Armitage] <em>said, &lsquo;Be prepared to be bombed. Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age&rsquo;,\u00a0\u00bb General Musharraf said, according to excerpts of the interview released by CBS last night.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t()<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Shortly after 9\/11, Pakistan indeed ended its support of the Taliban and became a frontline ally of America in the \u00a0\u00bbwar on terror\u00a0\u00bb. However, General Musharraf makes no secret of his distaste for the strong-arm tactics he faced from Mr Armitage. \u00a0\u00bbI think it was a very rude remark,\u00a0\u00bb he says in the interview. \u00a0\u00bbOne has to think and take actions in the interests of the nation, and that&rsquo;s what I did.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tDeux remarques que nous proposons :<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t  La premi\u00e8re est que les r\u00e9v\u00e9lations de Musharraf rel\u00e8guent au magasin des illusions europ\u00e9ennes l&rsquo;id\u00e9e qu&rsquo;il existe une fraction extr\u00e9miste et une fraction mod\u00e9r\u00e9e dans le gouvernement US. Armitage \u00e9tait \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque l&rsquo;adjoint de Powell, au d\u00e9partement d&rsquo;Etat, en principe forteresse (assi\u00e9g\u00e9e) de la fraction mod\u00e9r\u00e9e dans le gouvernement US. Il faut reconna\u00eetre qu&rsquo;un Rumsfeld ou qu&rsquo;un Cheney n&rsquo;aurait pu \u00eatre plus dur que ne le fut Armitage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t  La seconde est bien qu&rsquo;il existe une obsession dans la <em>psych\u00e9<\/em> am\u00e9ricaniste, repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par cette expression <em>to bomb back into the Stone Age<\/em> (vous ramener \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00c2ge de pierre par la vertu des bombardements US). La paternit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;expression est, dans la forme et dans l&rsquo;esprit, du g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Curtiss LeMay, qui semble d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment le porte-voix et l&rsquo;inspirateur d&rsquo;une part importante de la psychologie am\u00e9ricaniste. (LeMay est, aux USA, l&rsquo;inspirateur et l&rsquo;ordonnateur de la doctrine des bombardements a\u00e9riens massifs.) On y trouve \u00e0 la fois l&rsquo;obsession du bombardement a\u00e9rien massif et, deuxi\u00e8me chose qui n&rsquo;est pas indiff\u00e9rente, l&rsquo;obsession du retour au <em>Ground Zero<\/em> de la civilisation pour celui qui n&rsquo;est pas am\u00e9ricaniste.
