Elle devient un boulet pour <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article.php?art_id=3481\" class=\"gen\">Tony Blair<\/a> en fin de r\u00e8gne, faisant de cette fin de r\u00e8gne une d\u00e9b\u00e2cle pour sa r\u00e9putation d&rsquo;homme d&rsquo;Etat dynamique et int\u00e8gre.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tLe <em>Guardian<\/em>, quotidien soi-disant proche des travaillistes, y est pour beaucoup. Ce journal est plus que jamais le centre m\u00e9diatique des r\u00e9v\u00e9lations et des attaques anti-Blair dans cette affaire (d&rsquo;autres scandales que <em>Yamamah<\/em> sont \u00e9galement \u00e9voqu\u00e9s). <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.guardian.co.uk\/foreignaffairs\/story\/0,,2003234,00.html\" class=\"gen\">Ce matin<\/a>, le <em>Guardian<\/em> fait un de ses titres de nouvelles r\u00e9v\u00e9lations sur <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article.php?art_id=3479\" class=\"gen\">le processus<\/a> qui a men\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;arr\u00eat de l&rsquo;enqu\u00eate sur <em>Yamamah<\/em> et la corruption-BAE. En fait, il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une confirmation d&rsquo;un processus dont on se doutait bien : c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;intervention personnelle de Blair aupr\u00e8s de l&rsquo;attorney general Lord Goldsmith qui a conduit \u00e0 la d\u00e9cision abrupte d&rsquo;arr\u00eater l&rsquo;enqu\u00eate, alors que celle-ci allait d\u00e9boucher sur des actions judiciaires. Pourtant, Goldsmith avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9cid\u00e9 un compromis, abandonnant les charges les plus lourdes contre BAE \u00e0 condition qu&rsquo;une action mineure soit poursuivie.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tDans la m\u00eame \u00e9dition du <em>Guardian<\/em>, Anthony Lester, un lib\u00e9ral de la Chambre des Lords, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/commentisfree\/story\/0,,2003297,00.html\" class=\"gen\">demande<\/a> la d\u00e9mission de l&rsquo;attorney general.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tExtraits du <em>Guardian<\/em> :<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>The attorney general, Lord Goldsmith, changed his mind about whether there was enough evidence to bring corruption charges against the arms company BAE after pressure from Downing Street, legal sources have told the Guardian.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>In emergency meetings before Christmas, Lord Goldsmith initially agreed with lawyers and prosecutors that the Serious Fraud Office could bring charges against the former head of BAE Sir Dick Evans.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The allegations involved backdoor gifts to the then head of the Saudi air force, Prince Turki-bin-Nasser.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Having reviewed the SFO&rsquo;s files, Lord Goldsmith agreed that BAE could, in effect, be offered a plea bargain in which investigators would drop further potentially politically embarrassing inquiries if the company agreed to plead guilty to these relatively minor charges.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>But within 48 hours the agreement was countermanded after decisions taken in Downing St, Whitehall sources said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The director of the SFO, Robert Wardle, was forbidden to make the approach to BAE. Instead the attorney general told parliament the entire Saudi investigation was to be halted, and that there was insufficient evidence for it to succeed.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Lord Goldsmith also said in the Lords that MI5 and MI6 believed national security was in danger.
