Comme chacun sait, les deux principaux candidats pour la d\u00e9signation du parti sont respectivement Hillary Clinton et Barack Obama qui ont comme vertus fondamentales respectives d&rsquo;\u00eatre femme et d&rsquo;\u00eatre \u00e0 demi Noir (c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire, semble-t-il, \u00e0 demi-<em>African-American<\/em>). Le troisi\u00e8me candidat \u00e0 la d\u00e9signation est le s\u00e9nateur Edwards, qui n&rsquo;a rien de particulier \u00e0 cet \u00e9gard.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tMais voil\u00e0 que surgit un <em>outsider<\/em>. Le dernier sondage (Gallup, dans le Wall Street <em>Journal<\/em> du <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/public\/article_print\/SB117139500515407551-BvJ5YLbrUKcxHXAjxVMf9s5Gg2g_20080213.html\" class=\"gen\">14 f\u00e9vrier<\/a>) donne effectivement Clinton, Obama et Edwards, avec 45%, 37% et 28% chez les \u00e9lecteurs d\u00e9mocrates, effectivement pour la d\u00e9signation du parti. Le quatri\u00e8me n&rsquo;est pas candidat, pourtant, il obtient un tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s solide 26%. C&rsquo;est Al Gore. Ces r\u00e9sultats de sondage sont bien plus qu&rsquo;encourageants.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tQue va faire Gore ? Fera-t-il quelque chose ? Lisez ceci, du New York <em>Observer<\/em> dat\u00e9 du <a href=\"http:\/\/www.observer.com\/20070219\/20070219_Steve_Kornacki_opinions_wiseguys.asp\" class=\"gen\">19 f\u00e9vrier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>It&rsquo;s too much to say that Al Gore has decided to run for President in 2008.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>But it does seem that he wants to preserve the option.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Certainly, the recent buzz about a possible Gore campaign in 2008 doesn&rsquo;t seem to be spontaneously generated. According to one influential Democratic insider, close associates of the former Vice President have communicated to him and other prominent fund-raisers who are uncommitted to the other &rsquo;08 candidates that Mr. Gore will consider entering the raceif an opening presents itselfin September.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Ask Mr. Gore&rsquo;s spokesperson about the rumors, and the response is the same sort of mushy non-denial that Mr. Gore himself has become expert at serving up. Obviously, said Kalee Kreider, he appreciates the sentiment from folks who are interested in this, but really, his efforts are focused on global warming.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>But let&rsquo;s just look at the merits of the hypothetical Gore candidacy that the former Vice President&rsquo;s supporters seem to be proposing.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The timing would certainly make sense, since Mr. Gore, unlike other candidates who have made late entries into recent Presidential campaigns, can afford to wait. He already has enviable name recognition, a reliable financial network and a groundswell of loyalty among the Democratic grassrootsactivists who won&rsquo;t forget that he stood against the Iraq War from the beginning, back when the Bush G.O.P. was so successfully making support for an invasion a litmus test of patriotism.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>And a dramatic, last-minute entrance, after months of prodding and begging from grassroots activists, would stamp any Gore &rsquo;08 effort as something more than just another campaign by another politician.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>With his Oscar and Nobel Prize nominations, upcoming Congressional testimony on global warming, and an international day of concerts to promote climate-change awareness that he&rsquo;s organizing for early July, Mr. Gore figures to receive more prominent news coverage in the months ahead than many of the announced candidates.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tGore a-t-il une chance ? Plus d&rsquo;une, sans le moindre doute, et pour la d\u00e9signation d\u00e9mocrate, et pour le reste. Il a, lui, des vertus uniques, qui sont autant de tr\u00e9sors par les temps qui courent : avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 vol\u00e9 de sa pr\u00e9sidence en 2000, par la bande de brigands actuellement au pouvoir ; s&rsquo;\u00eatre oppos\u00e9 \u00e0 la guerre en Irak d\u00e8s le premier jour ; s&rsquo;\u00eatre fait le champion de la lutte contre le <em>global warming<\/em> Gore est une occurrence \u00e9tonnante.
