Le bruit court que cette attention du grand journal britannique est \u00e0 mesure de la d\u00e9ception qu&rsquo;il est en train d&rsquo;\u00e9prouver \u00e0 appr\u00e9cier l&rsquo;\u00e9volution du candidat lib\u00e9ral devenu pr\u00e9sident.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tSon dernier \u00e9dito sur Sarko, du <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/3f038654-0d57-11dc-937a-000b5df10621.html\" class=\"gen\">28 mai<\/a>, intitul\u00e9 \u00ab<em>Sarko&rsquo;s honeymoon<\/em>\u00bb, est d&rsquo;une suavit\u00e9 impassible et pleine d&rsquo;un vinaigre discret mais persistant au go\u00fbt. Si le FT reconna\u00eet une extr\u00eame popularit\u00e9 \u00e0 Sarko pour ces premi\u00e8res semaines de pr\u00e9sidence, s&rsquo;il lui reconna\u00eet une certaine habilet\u00e9 pour appara\u00eetre comme un bon Europ\u00e9en, il n&rsquo;h\u00e9site pas pour autant \u00e0 employer le terrible qualificatif (gaulliste) et \u00e0 avertir le pr\u00e9sident fran\u00e7ais des difficult\u00e9s qui l&rsquo;attendent, notamment germaniques.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em> Mr Sarkozy already presents himself as a good European. Yet he is not a natural man of consensus. On other issues, he remains ominously Gaullist: he wants Europe to provide more protection against the effects of globalisation, condemns naivety in EU negotiations on the Doha round, and wants more economic governance to counterbalance the powers of the European Central Bank. He is adamant that Turkey should not join the EU.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The new French president likes to provoke, but he should choose his enemies with care. On trade protection, and Turkey, he may antagonise the British. He can live with that. If he challenges the powers of the European Central Bank, he will have to face the wrath of Berlin. He would be well advised to tread carefully.
