\t\u00bbMr Timmermans said there remained considerable domestic unease about a loss of identity. He added: The Dutch will not accept us coming back from Brussels with something that is more or less the constitutional treaty, perhaps in a slightly changed form.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n\t\u00bbAlso weighing on the minds of the Dutch delegation is the question of whether a new referendum will be needed, something the Dutch left is likely to demand but which Angela Merkel, German chancellor and holder of the EU’s rotating presidency, wants to avoid at all costs.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n\t\u00bbEverything depended on the content of a new treaty, said Mr Timmermans. I don’t accept that simply because we had a referendum on the previous document we need a referendum on this treaty.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
