Le terrain avait \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9par\u00e9 par des d\u00e9cennies de troubles mais la phase actuelle est fondamentalement li\u00e9e \u00e0 une lutte pour les ressources naturelles. Ainsi peut-on parler de conflit de la crise climatique impliquant la d\u00e9gradation de l&rsquo;environnement, avec les guillemets n\u00e9cessaires pour d\u00e9finir ce qui est plus une longue suite de d\u00e9sordres avec des pertes civiles \u00e9videmment consid\u00e9rables qu&rsquo;un conflit classique avec des buts politiques affirm\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tUne d\u00e9p\u00eache de l&rsquo;AFP, retransmise par <em>Terradaily.com<\/em>, pr\u00e9sente ce rapport le <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terradaily.com\/reports\/Environment_Woes_Key_Source_Of_Sudan_Conflicts_999.html\" class=\"gen\">22 juin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>Lasting peace in Sudan will not be possible unless the fractious country takes serious steps to address alarming environmental woes, said a UN report published Friday. Decades of war have devastated Africa&rsquo;s largest country and fresh competition for its resources continue to fuel conflict, said the report by the United Nations Environment Programme said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Long-term peace in the region will not be possible unless these underlying and closely linked environmental and livelihood issues are resolved, it said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>In its report, entitled Sudan post-conflict environmental assessment, the UN agency stressed that desertification and land degradation had been a key source of conflict in impoverished Darfur.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Northern Darfur  where exponential population growth and related environmental stress have created the conditions for conflicts to be triggered and sustained by political, tribal or ethnic differences  can be considered a tragic example of the social breakdown that can result from ecological collapse, the UN said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The conflict in Sudan&rsquo;s parched western region of Darfur erupted in February 2003 when rebel groups complaining of marginalisation and demanding a greater share of the country&rsquo;s resources took up arms.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>According to the UN, the Darfur conflict has left some 200,000 people dead.
