Wilkerson d\u00e9taille la position hostile d&rsquo;Isra\u00ebl vis-\u00e0-vis des projets US d&rsquo;attaque de l&rsquo;Irak, en 2001-2003. Les Isra\u00e9liens \u00e9taient partisans d&rsquo;une attaque contre l&rsquo;Iran et consid\u00e9raient l&rsquo;Irak comme un objectif accessoire, sinon inutile. Le message des Isra\u00e9liens aux Am\u00e9ricains \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8rement abrupt, selon Wilkerson : Si vous voulez d\u00e9stabiliser le rapport des forces au Moyen-Orient, faites-le contre le principal ennemi, l&rsquo;Iran.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>Israeli officials warned the George W. Bush administration that an invasion of Iraq would be destabilizing to the region and urged the United States to instead target Iran as the primary enemy, according to former administration official Lawrence Wilkerson.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Wilkerson, then a member of the State Department&rsquo;s Policy Planning Staff and later chief of staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell, recalled in an interview with IPS that the Israelis reacted immediately to indications that the Bush administration was thinking of war against Iraq. After the Israeli government picked up the first signs of that intention, Wilkerson says, The Israelis were telling us Iraq is not the enemy  Iran is the enemy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Wilkerson describes the Israeli message to the Bush administration in early 2002 as being, If you are going to destabilize the balance of power, do it against the main enemy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The warning against an invasion of Iraq was pervasive in Israeli communications with the administration, Wilkerson recalls. It was conveyed to the administration by a wide range of Israeli sources, including political figures, intelligence, and private citizens.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Wilkerson notes that the main point of their communications was not that the United States should immediately attack Iran, but that it should not be distracted by Iraq and Saddam Hussein from a focus on the threat from Iran.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tCes pr\u00e9cisions sont particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressantes, historiquement et politiquement. Comme le note Porter, la position isra\u00e9lienne \u00e9tait \u00e9galement tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rente de celle de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe n\u00e9o-conservatrice,  pourtant per\u00e7ue en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral comme une courroie de transmission du Likoud \u00e0 Washington. Il y avait clairement d\u00e9saccord, les <em>neocons<\/em> \u00e9tant partisans \u00e0 100% de l&rsquo;attaque contre l&rsquo;Irak, dans tous les cas dans un premier temps. Tout cela permet de relativiser le poids de l&rsquo;influence isra\u00e9lienne sur la politique US et renforce l&rsquo;interpr\u00e9tation d&rsquo;une guerre contre l&rsquo;Irak lanc\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de positions, rationnelles ou\/et passionnelles, particuli\u00e8rement fortes dans l&rsquo;administration GW Bush.
