Quoi qu&rsquo;il en soit, Gates nous interpr\u00e8te un excellent num\u00e9ro, tout en retenue, sur le th\u00e8me classique du si j&rsquo;aurais su j&rsquo;aurais pas venu<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tCela, lors d&rsquo;une interview pour le New Yorl <em>Times<\/em>, dont <em>ABC.News<\/em> nous restitue la substantifique mo\u00eblle ce <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/WN\/story?id=3626377&#038;page=1\" class=\"gen\">19 septembre<\/a>:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>Defense Secretary Robert Gates&rsquo; stunningly candid answer came in an interview with New York Times columnist David Brooks.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Asked if the invasion of Iraq was worth doing, Gates first rephrased the question: If I&rsquo;d known then what I know now, would I have done the same? I think the answer is, I don&rsquo;t know.&rsquo;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t()<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The co-author of the Iraq Study Report said Gate&rsquo;s views on the Iraq conflict are in stark contrast to the president&rsquo;s.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>You couldn&rsquo;t get a greater contrast, said Lee Hamilton, co-author of the Iraq Study Report. It&rsquo;s refreshing to see a secretary of defense who has an appreciation of military power but also has an appreciation of the limitations of military power, he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Gates supports the president&rsquo;s strategy on the so-called surge, but he has a starkly different view about what can be accomplished in Iraq.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>In another interview Monday, Gates told the Wall Street Journal he is focused on bringing a long-term stabilizing presence.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tM\u00eame si l&rsquo;on accueille tout cela avec une certaine placidit\u00e9, d\u00e9sormais habitu\u00e9s \u00e0 ces \u00e9tonnantes divergences d&rsquo;opinions jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&rsquo;opposition pure et simple \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur de cette administration, on doit rappeler qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une situation extr\u00eamement rare. Bush garde toute sa confiance \u00e0 Gates, sans souci de ses opinions, simplement occup\u00e9 \u00e0 durer et \u00e0 faire durer le conflit jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la fin de son mandat. C&rsquo;est devenu pour Bush une obsession, son combat solitaire. Gates, lui, travaille \u00e0 ciel ouvert pour tenter de contenir tous les projets dangereux du pr\u00e9sident et de la clique Cheney, notamment avec divers membres de la hi\u00e9rarchie militaire (notamment l&rsquo;amiral <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article.php?art_id=4297\" class=\"gen\">Fallon<\/a>).
