La m\u00eame d\u00e9p\u00eache AFP \u00e0 laquelle nous nous attachons dans la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article.php?art_id=4705\" class=\"gen\">note pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente<\/a> rappelle ceci:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>The US military also increasingly has taken its own tack since the ouster of Donald Rumsfeld as defense secretary, quietly but firmly distancing itself from White House saber rattling on Iran.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The tough talk reached a peak with President George W. Bush&rsquo;s warning on October 17 of the threat of World War III if Iran acquires the knowledge to make nuclear weapons, language reminiscent of US rhetoric leading up to the Iraq invasion.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Vice President Dick Cheney followed up days later, telling a Washington think tank: We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>But Admiral William Fallon, the head of the US Central Command, complained in a newspaper interview that incessant press speculation about military action was harming efforts to bring Iran onto a more positive path.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tNous avions signal\u00e9 cette intervention de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article.php?art_id=4622\" class=\"gen\">Fallon<\/a> dans le <em>Financial Times<\/em> du 13 novembre. De m\u00eame que dans la d\u00e9p\u00eache cit\u00e9e, nous mettions \u00e9galement en parall\u00e8le, pour les opposer de mani\u00e8re significative, l&rsquo;interview de Fallon et les d\u00e9clarations de GW Bush sur la Troisi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale, dans notre rubrique <em>Journal<\/em>, dans notre Lettre d&rsquo;Analyse <em>de defensa &#038; eurostrat\u00e9gie<\/em> du 25 novembre 2007. Voici l&rsquo;extrait : <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<strong><em>La crise iranienne est l&rsquo;occasion de la mise en \u00e9vidence de d\u00e9saccords et de confrontations extraordinaires au sein de l&rsquo;establishment de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 nationale \u00e0 Washington,  ainsi tend-elle \u00e0 sortir du sch\u00e9ma de la guerre contre la terreur<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Que peut-on conclure, \u00e0 comparer deux \u00e9v\u00e9nements si proches? D&rsquo;une part, cette d\u00e9claration du pr\u00e9sident des Etats-Unis, annon\u00e7ant le 17 octobre que l&rsquo;\u00e9volution iranienne (concernant le d\u00e9veloppement de ses capacit\u00e9s nucl\u00e9aires) risquait de conduire \u00e0 la Troisi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale (\u00ab&#8230;if you&rsquo;re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them [the Iranians] from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon\u00bb); d&rsquo;autre part cette d\u00e9claration, le 12 novembre au Financial Times, de l&rsquo;amiral Fallon, commandant de Central Command dont d\u00e9pend le th\u00e9\u00e2tre iranien: \u00ab[W]hile dealing with Iran [is] a challenge, a strike [is] not in the offing. None of this is helped by the continuing stories that just keep going around and around and around that any day now there will be another war which is just not where we want to go.\u00bb Traduisons en termes clairs: Fallon dit que les d\u00e9clarations annon\u00e7ant une guerre avec l&rsquo;Iran, y compris d&rsquo;un Pr\u00e9sident qui parle de la Troisi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale, sont irresponsables et inexactes puisque rien de semblable n&rsquo;est pr\u00e9par\u00e9.
