Ils se chamaillent pour savoir qui prendra la pompe \u00e0 incendie pour la diriger vers le feu et pouvoir dire en <em>prime time<\/em> : C&rsquo;est moi Voyons le d\u00e9tail.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tLe chaos \u00e0 Wall Steet engendrant le chaos au Congr\u00e8s, la campagne pr\u00e9sidentielle ne pouvait \u00eatre en reste. Apr\u00e8s tout, nous sommes en d\u00e9mocratie et l&rsquo;\u00e9galit\u00e9 r\u00e8gne. C&rsquo;est donc le chaos dans la campagne \u00e9lectorale, avec, semble-t-il, une manuvre de McCain pour tirer b\u00e9n\u00e9fice pour lui seul d&rsquo;une initiative venue semble-t-il d&rsquo;Obama, pour une action commune des deux candidats dans le concert cacophonique issu de la crise financi\u00e8re. Ainsi se confirme-t-il que la crise financi\u00e8re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article-les_habits_divers_de_la_crise_24_09_2008.html\" class=\"gen\">s&rsquo;\u00e9largit<\/a> \u00e0 une crise politique,  ou bien, disons chaos \u00e0 la place de crise et l&rsquo;affaire est conclue. Dans tous les cas, le th\u00e9\u00e2tre passe de Wall Street \u00e0 Washington<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tDans un bulletin du <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2008\/POLITICS\/09\/24\/suspend.timeline\/index.html\" class=\"gen\">24 septembre<\/a>, <em>CNN.News<\/em> nous donne un d\u00e9tail qui semble assez juste de la manuvre de McCain. Les deux candidats avaient conclu qu&rsquo;ils feraient un communiqu\u00e9 commun sur la crise, apr\u00e8s avoir interrompu leur campagne et regagn\u00e9 Washington; mais McCain suit ses conseillers les plus avis\u00e9s et y voit une occasion de remonter dans les sondages; il fait une d\u00e9claration \u00e0 la TV annon\u00e7ant qu&rsquo;il se mobilise, lui, pour lutter contre la crise, mentionnant effectivement le communiqu\u00e9 commun mais ajoutant que la chose est d\u00e9pass\u00e9e et qu&rsquo;il faut agir.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00ab<em>But McCain, appearing live on The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, challenged Obama&rsquo;s claims that he supported a joint statement.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>This is not the time for statements. &#8230; I think the American people expect more of us. And I would hope that we would respond that way, he said. We discussed that we do agree, and I&rsquo;d be glad to  to join in a common press release or statement, but now is not the time for statements. Time is now to act, he added.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tLes d\u00e9mocrates sont \u00e9videmment furieux. \u00ab<em>Asked about political motivation in the news conference, Obama said to check with the other guy. One Democratic senator wasn&rsquo;t as diplomatic answering the question. This was seeking political one-upmanship, and it&rsquo;s going to fail, Sen. It was a startling, high-risk gambit aimed at making his rival, Barack Obama, look flat-footed. Mr McCain also asked for a postponement of the first presidential debate, which was scheduled for tomorrow evening. It could backfire on him, however, if voters conclude he is afraid of the debate in the middle of an economic crisis.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Mr McCain made the move even as both presidential campaigns were working on a joint statement setting out their broad agreement on terms for the $700bn (\u00a3350bn) bailout of Wall Street now before Congress. Mr McCain indicated his belief, however, that the rescue package might fail in the face of growing opposition.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>The manoeuvre could be awkward for Senator Obama. For now, though, he is having none of it, declaring at a hastily convened news conference that he intended to attend the debate in Oxford, Mississippi, as planned. He said it was more important than ever that voters have the chance to assess both candidates and that anybody aspiring to be US President should be able to do more than one thing at a time.<\/em> []<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Amid a mood of mounting crisis, President Bush was due to appeal last night for support for his $700bn rescue plan for Wall Street at a time when 55 per cent of Americans oppose spending their tax dollars rescuing failing financial firms. The package was been met with deep scepticism by Democrats and Republicans alike this week. Mr McCain and Mr Obama are under pressure to declare their hands on the details of the rescue package and both are manoeuvring to take political advantage from whatever outcome emerges.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Mr McCain made his surprise statement after speaking at former president Bill Clinton&rsquo;s Global Initiative meeting in New York yesterday. I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself, he declared.
