BHO, l’homme du win-win<\/em><\/h4>\n

Parmi les innombrables commentaires qui tressent des louanges apr\u00e8s la d\u00e9cision du pr\u00e9sident Obama de remplacer McChrystal par Petraeus, nous \u00e9tions embarrass\u00e9s du choix d’en trouver un qui fut le plus repr\u00e9sentatif. Il nous a sembl\u00e9, par s\u00e9duction de ce petit texte que par compilation z\u00e9l\u00e9e, que le tr\u00e8s court \u00e9ditorial de Francine Kiefer, dans The Chistian Science Monitor<\/em>, le 23 juin 2010<\/a>, pouvait faire l’affaire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\tIl est tr\u00e8s court, \u00e9perdu dans la satisfaction d’\u00eatre et d’une admiration stup\u00e9faite d’\u00eatre si admirative, \u00e9crit \u00e0 l’encre rose-bonbon avec pleins et d\u00e9li\u00e9s, nous invitant \u00e0 le lire avec un regard \u00e9panoui de vertu.. Il nous a sembl\u00e9 que la chose correspondait bien \u00e0 cette sorte d’esprit qui estimait hier soir, qui est s\u00fbr ce matin qu’une grande victoire en Afghanistan vient d’\u00eatre remport\u00e9e dans le Rose Garden<\/em> de la Maison-Blanche Allelu\u00efa, Notre-Pr\u00e9sident \u00e0 tous a pris une d\u00e9cision.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\tIl est tellement court, cet \u00e9dito, qu’on vous le restitue tel que et p\u00eale-m\u00eale<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbMcChrystal is out, Petraeus is in, and Barack Obama has deftly extracted himself from that uncomfortable spot between a rock and a hard place.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbBefore this morning’s meeting between President Obama and Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the punditry and media had pretty much come to the same conclusion: There was no good outcome here.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbIf the commander-in-chief fired General McChrystal for his disparaging remarks about the administration, the war could falter. The general, after all, had come up with the strategy. And what would happen to next summer’s troop pull down if Obama changed generals in midstream?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbIf the president kept McChrystal, though, he’d be bowing to a disrespectful general and showing himself to be as weak as the McChrystal team said in that Rolling Stone article.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbInstead, Obama comes out looking strong and wise by accepting McChrystal’s resignation and swiftly replacing him with the general’s own boss a man who certainly knows the ins and outs of the Afghanistan war. David Petraeus is widely respected for turning around the Iraq war with his surge strategy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbWhile Obama’s brilliance shines here, the softer but perhaps more illuminating light is that of Petraeus. Essentially, he’s taking a step down to take over his subordinate’s job. That speaks to a humble character that puts country and mission above all else.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\t\u00bbIt’s a win-win for the White House today. Let’s hope that translates to a win where it counts, in Afghanistan.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
