He did not attend the Farnborough Air Show this year outside London, and he&rsquo;s not given interviews since taking office this spring. So, aside from occasional comments from Pentagon procurement czar Ashton Carter, the sole official voice speaking for the program is contractor Lockheed Martin. Though the company is dedicated to executing the program, its interests are arguably different than those of the U.S. government and taxpayer. David Venlet, the new director of the tri-service, nine-nation Joint Strike Fighter program, is not planning to attend the Farnborough Air Show during his first year in the high-profile post. Neither he nor his staff will attend the show, says Cheryl Irwin, a Pentagon spokeswoman.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\t\u00bb<em>Farnborough is the most high-profile, international aerospace event of the year. Venlet&rsquo;s decision is a bit of a surprise, given the important role that allies play in achieving the goals of the F-35 program.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\tCes divers \u00e9v\u00e9nements, ou non-\u00e9v\u00e9nements, sont pour le moins un \u00e9l\u00e9ment de plus du dossier de la position plus que r\u00e9serv\u00e9e, sinon secr\u00e8tement hostile de la Navy vis-\u00e0-vis du JSF. Son absence compl\u00e8te de la sc\u00e8ne publique est une tr\u00e8s s\u00e9rieuse indication de la position de la Navy, qui pourrait effectivement se concr\u00e9tiser apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9part de Gates,  comme l&rsquo;indiquait Wheeler.
