The Syrian cunningness, or what is left of it, placed the Turkish prime minister before a dangerous predicament. Indeed, the Kurdistan Workers Party’s attacks in the southeastern part of the country have escalated, the border with Syria is ablaze due to the exchanged bombings and the Turkish opposition led by the People’s Party has strongly returned to the forefront of the events after it perceived the Syrian crisis as being the ammunition it lacked throughout the past years to efficiently strike the Justice and Development Party.

»President Bashar al-Assad, the friend who became a fierce enemy for Mr. Erdogan, has managed even if temporarily to provoke the Turkish fox and cause it to react in a way going against its usual collectedness and wisdom. This was seen when the Turkish warplanes forced a Syrian civilian aircraft coming from Moscow to land at the Ankara’s airport, under the pretext it was carrying prohibited military material. We do not think that the reason behind the hijacking of the Syrian civilian plane was its illegitimate cargo This step aimed at retaliating against the Syrian regime and responding to its provocations which started with the downing of a Turkish reconnaissance aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea in May, and ended with the bombardment of a Turkish village on the border, leading to the death of a woman and her four children who were paradoxically of Arab Syrian origins

»The plane could not have been carrying nuclear bombs or chemical weapons, considering that the latter are present in Syria and the first are carried by missiles and not civilian aircraft. Moreover, there is a direct air line between Moscow and Damascus, and we do not think that the Turkish authority, no matter how powerful its army may be, would repeat this operation had the targeted plane been Russian. The Turkish government has placed itself in a dual predicament, one of which is old with Syria, while the second is with Moscow which had an angry reaction, featuring Vladimir Putin’s annulment of a visit to Ankara this month and the Russian government’s call on Turkey to issue urgent and convincing clarifications for forcing the plan to land and threatening the lives of 17 Russian passengers who were on board

»By forcing a Syrian civilian plane to land at the Ankara Airport, Mr. Erdogan alleviated the pressures on Damascus’ ruler, who might have been the one who leaked the reports about the existence of an illegal freight on the abovementioned plane to lead Erdogan into this trap and implicate him in hostility with Moscow, with which he signed a commercial agreement for several hundred billion dollars ten days ago We have said it before and we will say it again The Syrian regime has nothing to lose, but Mr. Erdogan could lose a lot. This is why we advise him to show self-restraint because he will come out as the biggest loser even if he were to win the war on Syria. Waging war and achieving victory are sometimes easy, but the real problem resides in the post-victory stage, and he should ask his American allies who have an experienced answer about that.»

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

2
15145,15144,3737,15146,3867,2613
post-73448","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bloc-notes","tag-al-arabi","tag-al-quds","tag-erdogan","tag-intoxication","tag-syrie","tag-turquie
["GET
