Le commentateur-vedette de la droite pal\u00e9o-conservatrice et ancien speechwriter<\/em> de Reagan, Patrick J. Buchanan, signe une chronique lugubre<\/strong>, ce 14 f\u00e9vrier<\/a>, sur son site Buchanan.org<\/em>, dont nous donnons ci-dessous la conclusion. Il fait une analogie historique avec les ann\u00e9es 1960, où l’Am\u00e9rique fut d\u00e9chir\u00e9e par un vent r\u00e9volutionnaire de violences innombrables. Il pense que l’on atteint et m\u00eame d\u00e9passe le degr\u00e9 de tension et de haine des ann\u00e9es 1960, bien que les violence soient consid\u00e9rablement plus r\u00e9duites aujourd’hui. Ce dernier point est moins un signe d’espoir que le signe de la pr\u00e9sence d’une violence dans les psychologies plus que dans les actes, et pour cela bien pire encore…<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Dans les ann\u00e9es 1960 et jusqu’en 1972, les violence r\u00e9volutionnaires de ce qu’il nomme \u00ab\u00a0la Gauche\u00a0\u00bb avaient un sens, et quelques revendications majeures<\/strong>. La plus importante d’entre elle, l’opposition \u00e0 la guerre du Vietnam, fut satisfaite en 1972, quand l’engagement US fut compl\u00e8tement termin\u00e9. D\u00e8s cet instant, les violences cess\u00e8rent et la crise se transforma<\/strong> en une sorte de curetage (le Watergate et la suite) qui r\u00e9unifia le pays aux d\u00e9pens essentiellement d’une victime sacrificielle, Richard Nixon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui, c’est tout \u00e0 fait diff\u00e9rent. Nul ne sait ce que veulent les contestataires, et eux encore moins que les autres. Aujourd’hui, \u00e9crit Buchanan, la haine s\u00e9parant les deux camps n’est pas moindre et peut-\u00eatre pire que celle qui s\u00e9parait Sudistes et Nordistes lorsque commen\u00e7a la Guerre de s\u00e9cession en 1861<\/strong>. Aujourd’hui, il semble bien que la cause de ce grand tourment, effectivement une cause psychologique vertigineuse<\/strong>, est simplement ce paroxysme-l\u00e0 <\/strong>: \u00ab\u00a0Nous ne pouvons plus, nous ne voulons plus vivre ensemble\u00a0\u00bb. « Les Californiens parlent de s\u00e9cession, \u00e9crit Buchanan, et l’essentiel de l’Am\u00e9rique traditionnelle serait heureux de les voir partir..<\/em>. […] Beaucoup sentent que le pays pourrait voler en morceaux<\/em>… »<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

» As with the EU, the cracks in the USA seem far beyond hairline fractures. Many sense the country could come apart<\/strong>. It did once before. And could Southerners and Northerners have detested each other much more than Americans do today?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

» Fifty years ago, the anti-Nixon demonstrators wanted out of Vietnam and an end to the draft. By 1972, they had gotten both. The long hot summers were over. The riots stopped. But other than despising Trump and his \u00ab\u00a0deplorables,\u00a0\u00bb what great cause unites the left today? Even Democrats confess to not knowing Hillary Clinton’s presidential agenda.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
