Le \u00ab\u00a0mensonge\u00a0\u00bb (les guillemets sont n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 ce point d&rsquo;inversion) est tellement complet et si compl\u00e8tement herm\u00e9tique <strong>qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;est plus mensonge puisqu&rsquo;hors des r\u00e9f\u00e9rences d&rsquo;une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 d\u00e9sint\u00e9gr\u00e9e<\/strong> ; la <em>narrative<\/em> n&rsquo;est plus <em>narrative<\/em> puisque l&rsquo;univers est, dans n&rsquo;importe quel cas, reconstruit aux seules dimensions de <strong>la <em>narrative<\/em> devenant ainsi nouvelle r\u00e9alit\u00e9<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><p>Ainsi la \u00ab\u00a0doctrine Gerasimov\u00a0\u00bb appara&icirc;t-elle \u00e0 partir d&rsquo;un article \u00e9crit en 2013 par l&rsquo;actuel chef de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e russe, et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e implicitement, &ndash; il faut savoir lire entre les lignes, bien entendu, &ndash; comme une doctrine promise \u00e0 activer l&rsquo;invasion russe par des moyens terribles et vicieux de la partie europ\u00e9enne, surtout est-europ\u00e9enne, du bloc-BAO. Il s&rsquo;agit de la <em>Blitzkrieg <\/em>postmoderne d&rsquo;un Guderian-Gerasimov aux ordres d&rsquo;un Poutine-Hitler, et destin\u00e9e \u00e0 activer une Op\u00e9ration <em>Barbarossa <\/em>\u00e0 l&rsquo;envers.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Cette aventure \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9ditoriale\u00a0\u00bb suffit \u00e0 nous confirmer, apr\u00e8s nos remarques sur <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dedefensa.org\/article\/zapad-2017-poutine-nous-terrorise\">Zapad 2017<\/a><\/em>, que l&rsquo;antirussisme qui avait sembl\u00e9 culminer avec <em>Russiagate <\/em>et qui semblait devoir s&rsquo;apaiser, <strong>reste plus vigoureux que jamais<\/strong>. En fait, l&rsquo;affaire de la \u00ab\u00a0doctrine Gerasimov\u00a0\u00bb est simplement une excroissance un peu plus exotique et <em>sexy <\/em>d&rsquo;une dialectique qui est devenue quasiment un r\u00e9flexe psychologique d&rsquo;un nomm&quot; Pavlov, exactement comme l&rsquo;on observe que le ciel est bleu (c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire, \u00ab\u00a0lorsqu&rsquo;on observe que le ciel est bleu alors qu&rsquo;il est couvert de nuages mena\u00e7ants et gris sombre\u00a0\u00bb). Il est effectivement remarquable de mesurer combien l&rsquo;antirussisme avec ses innombrables <em>narrative <\/em>absolument substantiv\u00e9e par rien de concret, \u00ab\u00a0hors-faits\u00a0\u00bb comme l&rsquo;on dit \u00ab\u00a0hors-sol\u00a0\u00bb dans les studios chics de la capitale, se trouve d\u00e9sormais dans le langage courant des divers domaines o&ugrave; l&rsquo;on peut rapprocher la dialectique d&rsquo;une remarque sur la Russie, ou faire de la Russie l&rsquo;occasion d&rsquo;un \u00e9v\u00e9nement de communication.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Lorsqu&rsquo;un commentateur nomm\u00e9 Andrew Exum, qui fut adjoint \u00e0 l&rsquo;assistant du secr\u00e9taire US \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense pour la politique au Moyen-Orient fait un article sur le <em>Hezbollah<\/em>, &ndash; on devine dans quel sens, &ndash; sur le site sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 <em>Defense One<\/em>, le <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defenseone.com\/ideas\/2017\/09\/hubris-hezbollah\/141086\/?oref=defenseone_today_nl\">18 septembre 2017<\/a>, il observe en passant, exactement comme on fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 une \u00e9vidence, et tirant argument de cette d\u00e9marche compl\u00e8tement <em>FakeNews<\/em> pour contribuer \u00e0 sa <em>narrative<\/em>, &ndash; que Poutine qu&rsquo;on d\u00e9crit si brillant fait aussi des sottises. Il est possible que Freeman ait \u00e9t\u00e9 pay\u00e9 pour ce qu&rsquo;il nous dit d&rsquo;une voix si pleine de conviction, <strong>mais il est encore plus possible qu&rsquo;il ne l&rsquo;ait pas \u00e9t\u00e9<\/strong>, tant cette cat\u00e9gorie soci\u00e9tale du <em>showbusiness <\/em>est effectivement devenue, avec la communication r\u00e9tribu\u00e9e par le Syst\u00e8me en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, le meilleur soutien moral et civique, donc hors de ces basses questions mat\u00e9rielles, des strat\u00e8ges charg\u00e9s de mettre en lumi\u00e8re les projets d\u00e9moniaques de la Russie. The Financial Times, once relatively competent on this beat, delivered breathless coverage of a non-existent army tenet. They might as well have published a feature on &quot;Crop Circles&quot; or the &quot;Priory of Sion.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The hoax concerned is the \u00ab\u00a0<em>Gerasimov Doctrine<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb &#8211; based on a 2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/vpk-news.ru\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/VPK_08_476.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">essay<\/a> where the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, mentioned different types of modern warfare, which could be loosely termed as \u00ab\u00a0<em>hybrid war<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb He was actually ruminating on how the West conducts operations, not Russia. Specifically in Libya and Syria and the \u00ab\u00a0<em>regime change<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb efforts connected to the \u00ab\u00a0<em>Arab Spring<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb of that year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>In the screed, Gerasimov never mentions \u00ab\u00a0<em>hybrid war<\/em>,\u00a0\u00bb and the closest phrase to it is \u00ab\u00a0<em>asymmetric<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb conflict, which is referenced three times. Plus, it&rsquo;s worth remembering also how the catchphrase was first hyped after the Georgian assault on South Ossetia in 2008, and the Kremlin&rsquo;s reaction to Mikhail Saakashvili&rsquo;s gambit. Also, back then, Nikolai Makarov was army chief, not Gerasimov. So if it actually existed, a more appropriate title would contain the latter&rsquo;s name.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Military training events can have strange effects on people. For instance, the joint Russia-Belarus Zapad-2017 (&quot;West-2017&quot;) venture, which is currently taking place, has <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/uk-russia-nato\/russias-zapad-war-games-unnerve-the-west-idUKKCN1BO1OK\" target=\"_blank\">spooked<\/a> the Baltic states into handing over their airspace to US control. Meanwhile, Ukraine&rsquo;s President has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-41185915\" target=\"_blank\">suggested<\/a> the whole thing is a smokescreen for an invasion of his country, and Poland&rsquo;s Deputy Defense Minister has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/847515\/russia-zapad-belarus-invasion-war-poland-putin)\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> that it could be an excuse for permanently stationing soldiers in Belarus. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>We&rsquo;ve also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/27khv\/status\/908220860430987264\/photo\/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fpreview%2FPost%2F59c1259dfc7e93aa3d8b4567%2F\">learned<\/a> how Moscow holds \u00ab\u00a0<em>war games<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb but NATO stages \u00ab\u00a0<em>exercises<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb and discovered that a lot of American and European officials think Vladimir Putin has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/monkey-cage\/wp\/2017\/09\/13\/100000-troops-will-engage-in-russias-zapad-2017-war-games\/\" target=\"_blank\">engaged<\/a> exactly 100,000 troops in the enterprise. Presumably, because he likes perfectly round numbers which are big and scary. But, for its part, the Kremlin insists only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XQGCSmZM21g\" target=\"_blank\">13,000<\/a> men are committed to the endeavor. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><h3 class=\"subtitleset_c.deepgreen\" style=\"color:#75714d; font-size:1.25em\">Menace of unreality<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Like the World Cup, Zapad is held every four years, meaning the current trials have been well-flagged and are hardly a surprise. But its very existence is big business for the \u00ab\u00a0<em>Russia scare<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb industry, and it&rsquo;s notable how CEPA, a lobby group for US military manufacturers, even set up a <a href=\"http:\/\/infowar.cepa.org\/the-road-to-zapad-2017\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a> with a countdown clock to help rustle up a bit of business for their sponsors.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Another terror doing the rounds recently is this \u00ab\u00a0<em>Gerasimov Doctrine<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb rubbish. Which has been heavily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2017\/09\/05\/gerasimov-doctrine-russia-foreign-policy-215538\" target=\"_blank\">promoted<\/a> by Molly McKew, a lobbyist who has quickly risen without trace as a \u00ab\u00a0<em>Russia expert<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb Presumably, because her ravings suit the current narrative in the United States. However, the problem with the grand strategy is that it simply doesn&rsquo;t exist. We know this because nobody in Russia ever mentions it and nobody remotely credible speaks of its authenticity.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p> Sure, some Western \u00ab\u00a0<em>Russia watchers<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0<em>Kremlinologists<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb have speculated on it, but these chancers aren&rsquo;t to be taken seriously. Because if it were raining soup in Moscow, they&rsquo;d be standing on the streets with forks. Far from the Russian capital, naturally.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Let&rsquo;s get something straight now: the \u00ab\u00a0<em>Gerasimov Doctrine<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb isn&rsquo;t real. Which means it&rsquo;s in the same category as the Loch Ness Monster or the Mummy&rsquo;s Curse. Yet, grown adults, often hiding behind fancy faux-academic titles, are talking about it.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><h3 class=\"subtitleset_c.deepgreen\" style=\"color:#75714d; font-size:1.25em\">Musical chairs<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Now, a few years ago, The Financial Times was perhaps the only Western newspaper which got Russia at least half-right. But then its correspondent Charles Clover was re-assigned, and his successors have lacked his experience, gravitas, and ability. This decline has led to the paper falling for the \u00ab\u00a0Gerasimov Doctrine\u00a0\u00bb swindle last weekend and merging it with Zapad puffery to create some phenomenally hyperbolic aggrandizement.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Indeed, as Mark Galeotti, a pundit on US government broadcaster RFE\/RL, puts it: \u00ab\u00a0<em>this essentially is Molly McKew meets Gerasimov&rsquo;s Wikipedia bio entry, presumably knocked out in an hour<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb And, to be fair, he&rsquo;s actually being restrained.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Because the FT&rsquo;s Moscow team have delivered something so appallingly constructed that it runs the full gamut of proficiency from y to z. A faux pas which presents a retired Russian general as a contemporary Zhuge Liang or Lord Nelson, capable of constructing a radical martial dogma from nowhere. And in the process makes him ten feet tall.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><h3 class=\"subtitleset_c.deepgreen\" style=\"color:#75714d; font-size:1.25em\">Nothing-burger<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The FT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7e14a438-989b-11e7-a652-cde3f882dd7b\" target=\"_blank\">attempts<\/a> to backup its argument with mentions of Crimea, allegations of US election hacking and information war. Using these as examples of a sudden Russian discovery of non-linear methods. Yet, the author is not self-aware enough to realize that the US has been using composite techniques like sanctions and revolutions, whether color or otherwise, to achieve strategic goals for decades.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Economic penalties or the removal of legitimate governments are clearly forms of \u00ab\u00a0hybrid war\u00a0\u00bb which pre-date Gerasimov, Makarov, and Putin himself. Also not forgetting that James Mattis, the current US Secretary of Defense, jointly penned a 2005 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usni.org\/magazines\/proceedings\/2005-11\/future-warfare-rise-hybrid-wars\" target=\"_blank\">essay<\/a> on \u00ab\u00a0<em>Future Warfare: the rise of hybrid wars<\/em>,\u00a0\u00bb eight years before Gerasimov took up his cudgel.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Let&rsquo;s be clear: the \u00ab\u00a0<em>Gerasimov Doctrine<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb is a complete load of nonsense. And it seems to have emerged from the general&rsquo;s 2013 article being circulated on social media by Western Russia watchers, making it a foreign construct with no basis in the Russian reality.
